How do I get an image of the moon and landscape to look sharp and non-grainy?
When the sky is that really dark dark blue, the moon is up illuminating the landscape (mountain etc).
I’m using a Maxxum 7000i (its a film camera for those that don’t know).
First off, you’re DEFINITELY going to need a tripod. Make sure it’s a very stable one, and you’ll thank me later. You might want to invest in a cable release (you can find one at your camera store. It’s a cable-like thing that attaches to the camera and by pressing a button, you activate the shutter, so that you don’t have to actually touch the camera and move it slightly).
Get some good film. Don’t skimp on the cheap stuff if you want a great picture. Also, make sure to get film with a low ISO. A high ISO will give you faster shutter speeds (but we’re using a tripod, so that doesn’t matter) with much more grain. I always use ISO 100.
I’m not sure how manual your camera is, but make sure the aperture is wide open, and experiment with some different shutter speeds, maybe in increments of 10s or 30s.
It’s going to take some time (and a couple rolls of film maybe) to get this right. Night time shots are hard, but when you take your time and work at it, the results can be very rewarding!
